What Else We Do

Medical Treks

Along with Aarohi, our partners and experts in local community based healthcare, we hold medical camps in the Pindari Valley area, specifically in the villages of Khati, Wachham, Jatoli, Juni, Khaljuni and Supi.

A team of doctors from across India along with a support team and community representatives hold physical checkups, distribute medicine and refer patients to hospitals in Bageshwar and the Aarohi hospital. Held twice a year, these camps also aim to train paramedics in these remote villages.

We are also slowly getting involved in other community issues, specifically education and livelihoods and have been arranging funding for local teachers in the valley.

We need doctors (general physicians and specialists) and people interested in community health for our medical treks in April and September each year.

We are also looking for community health workers, teachers and dedicated professionals who wish to volunteer for a longer period in the Pindari Valley area.

Himalayan Public School

Himjoli has been supporting Himalayan Public School a local private school in Suyalgarh, Dist Nainital, It has about a 100 children from Lower KG to Class 6 and is run by a local teacher who is passionate about bringing quality education to this remote part of the central Himalayas.

The Mukteshwar marathon held each year in May raises funds to build infrastructure for this school.

Himjoli and Corporate India

Himjoli aims to link community needs to Corporate Social Responsibility goals of organisations. We involve the employees of the participating company at project sites in Kumaon. They are engaged in projects as varied as tree planting to rural tourism initiatives, giving them exposure to the mountain rural community and their issues. We have been working with Ernst & Young on long term community programs in the Kumaon area for the past 6 years

Fresh Fruits and Vegetables

In its effort towards providing increased value to the farmer community of Kumaon, Himjoli has introduced the concept of ‘From Farm to Table’- a monthly ‘haat’ (market) that brings fresh fruits and vegetables to Delhi and Gurgaon. Sourced directly from the farmers in Kumaon, these markets provide them with a better price for their produce rather than the local mandi.

Tourism

Himjoli is currently assisting various organizations to set up socially responsible tourism initiatives in Kumaon. We provide back end integration of the local community and logistics whilst the experiences are owned and managed by the organizations.

Partner Initiatives

Himjoli works with its partners on community issues through its fundraising efforts for specific programmes. We are also an interface between the communities in Kumaon and interested individuals or groups looking to work in the area, through our partners.
